Modern Wind Farms are Majestic
Updated
City skylines evoke a sense of beauty, ambition, and wonder. People awed by the aesthetics of city skylines generally find modern wind farms to be similarly majestic.

"Not only did America invent the skyscraper, it invented the skyline." Famous Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava
However, wind farms had a less than majestic beginning.
The first generation of wind farms back in the early 1980s were constructed with hideous gray lattice framework structures. The crisscrossing steel members made wind turbines look as attractive as oil rigs, and the horizontal bars sadly make ideal spots for birds to build their nests. By ignoring aesthetics, well-intentioned but shortsighted environmentalists did significant damage to the public perception of wind farms. Fortunately, the new designs seriously upgraded the visuals.
The new white tubular wind turbines are sleek and elegant looking. Modern Wind farms are majestic.

The best looking wind turbines have wide sturdy-looking support towers topped with smooth cylindrical or rounded nacelles. Exposed parts and visual breaks should be minimized.
Aesthetics are Important
ADs believe that new wind farm projects should dedicate significant effort into visuals. Ugly wind farms create public backlash and energize opposition to clean energy. The future must be both clean and beautiful.

Planners should emphasize the visual aesthetics of both the individual wind turbine design and the comprehensive project layout similarly to how architects approach designing prominent skyscrapers.
